Abraham Munting, a Dutch doctor and botanist, spent most of his adult life as a professor of botany and chemistry in Groningen. He cultivated a variety of plants from all over the world, which he then documented in his Naauwkeurige Beschriyving der Aardgewassen. The 243 decorative and rather unique engraved plates depict plants set in or sometimes floating above landscape backgrounds. The illustrations were done by Jan Goeree and engraved by Jan Baptist.
