Allain M. Mallet was a well traveled French military engineer, geographer, and mathematician serving in the court of Louis XIV. The maps in his important miniature atlas, Description d' Universe, shaped the European view of the ancient and modern world. Publisher in Paris in 1683, they show each area in great detail and are particulary well designed with elaborate caratouches.
