Daniel Marot, was a trained artist in his own right and the son of a famous artist father. Active in the Court of Louis XIV, he fled to Holland and the court of William of Orange because of the presecutiion of the Hugenots in France. Having sucessfully designed the Palace at Het Loo & the State House in Amsterdam, he followed William to England when he became King William !!! and designed the gardens at both Hampton Court & Kensington Palace. Known for his extremely elaborate designs he is credited with spreading the high court style of Louis XIV throughout the lowlands and England
