Elizabeth Twining produced illustrations of the Natural Orders of Plants between 1849 and 1855. There were 160 beautifully hand colored stone lithographs, and she was responsible for both the drawing and the lithography. Each page showed several different plants, resulting in unusually attractive groupings.

Twining was the granddaughter of Richard Twining, the famous tea merchant. She was known to have divided her time between philanthropy and botany, and she was the founder of Bedford College.
