Francis Carruthers Gould (1844-1925) was a British political satirist. He began his art career while working in the London Stock Exchange. Gould sketched caricatures of public figures out of boredom. These sketches were lithographed and circulated, developing a buzz. Gouds work was subsequently published in the "Pall Mall Budget," the "Westminster Gazette," and "Picture Politics." His cartoons continue to be celebrated for their amusing and ironic—but never overly cynical—tone.
