Frederick Remington worked as an illustrator for various magazines in the late 19th century. He is well known for his illustrations of Western and military life that were published in periodicals such as Cosmopolitan, Harper's Weekly, Harper's Monthly, and others. In addition to creating detailed drawings, he also worked as a writer on the subject of Western life, and eventually had eight books published. Right near the turn of the century, Remington began to work with clay sculpture, eventually casting these twenty-two pieces into bronze. His illustrations are extremely detailed and they capture the spirit of a wilder America.
