Friedrich Guimpel was an industrious member of the Berlin society of artist and horticulturalists, He can to prominence in the early 1800's when he became Willdenow's principal illlustrator for the important botanical study Hortus Berolinensis (1803). His beautifully illustrated Vollstandige Naturgeschite, issued between 1830-1837, contains pharmacological botanical studies showing the flowers, fruits, stems and leaves of each plant.
