Joseph Mallord William Turner was an English landscape painter. At age 14, he was already a student at the Royal Academy of Arts and three years later was making topographical drawings for magazines. He succeeding in exhibiting his paintings as well. Toward the end of his life, his art became increasingly abstract to capture light, space, and the elements, rather than the surface appearances.
