Jean-Baptiste Audebert was French artist of natural history specializing in ornithology.
His work, Oiseaux Dores ou a Reflets Metalliques, 1802, completed with Louis Jean Viellot, is perhaps the loveliest individual bird book of the time. It features 190 plates depicting tropical birds. The gold applied to the plates utilizes a technique invented by Audebert which creates an effect similar to medieval illuminations. Oiseaux Dores was completed by Viellot after Audebert died while the work was in mid-publication.
