Jean Baptiste Bourguignon d'Anville was the Royal geographer and cartographer, 'Aux galeries du Louvre', Paris. Anville (or d'Anville) built a collection of over 200 rare and contemporary maps, now in the Bibliotheque nationale. He was elected to Academie des Sciences 1773. His maps, known for their detail & accuracy, were copied widely through out Europe.
