Jesse Willcox Smith was an American illustrator, portraitist of children, and poster artist. Born in Philadelphia, Smith studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Drexel Institute of Technology. Her work included drawings for Mother Goose Rhymes, Kingsley's Water Babies, Stevenson's Child's Garden of Verses, and several series of which the Seven Ages of Childhood appeared in 1909. She received the silver medal at the Panama-Pacific Exposition, San Francisco, 1915, and many other awards.
