Johann Debry, an engraver and publisher, was one of several sons who flourished in a family of artists and printers. His first florilegium, Florilegium Novum, was printed in Frankfurt in 1611.
He married into the family of Mattiaus Merian, and together they re-issued and revised the study. Published in 1641, the Florelegium Renovatum et Auctum containe old favorites and new varieties of plants useful in the seventeenth century world.
In 1719 Valentini published Viridanen Reformatum using the De Bry plates yet again and adding and updating new species.
