Parkins?ns Paradisi in Sole Paradisus Terrestris, or a Garden of all Sorts of pleasant flowers which our English ayre will permitt to be noursed up, with a Kitchen garden of all manner of herbs, rootes and fruites, for meate, or sauce used with us, and an Orchard of all sone of fruitbearing Tress and shrubbes fir our Land, with right ordering planting and perserving of them and their uses and venues, was the most famous English gardening book of the seventeenth century. The work was practical from the point of view of the gardener and described nearly 1,000 plants, mostly exotics. The work was issued in 1629, with the 110 full page woodcuts done mostly by Christopher Switzer, with some copied from Crispijn de Passe. The title Paradisi in sole is a pun on the author’s name, that is ‘park in sun’.
