BIOGRAPHY OF KATE GREENAWAY

BIOGRAPHY OF KATE GREENAWAY

Kate Greenaway was one of the most well-known children's illustrators of the 19th-century. Her scenes of doll-like children in rural clothes leading a pure country life were exactly what Victorian England wanted. The bonnets and bows and quaint little verses filled greeting cards and books wildly popular in England and on the Continent. Her drawings even dictated women's fashion for several years. Ironically Greenaway was unmarried, rather plain in appearance, painfully shy, and not the least bit fashionable. She hated being famous and being a grown-up. She kept her childhood world of fantasies always close to her heart. They would inspire her and the Victorian World until her death.
