Luigi Rossini was born in Rome in 1790, fifty years after the great architectural engraver, Giovanni Battista Piranesi published his famous Veduta di Roma. Like Piranesi, Rossini was known for his large engraved plates of the ancient architecture of Rome. These views were printed between 1817 and 1824. Most of his work appeared in a collected edition in seven imperial folio volumes in 1829, containing 101 engraved plates. This was the only edition, limited to 200 to 300 copies, and titled Le Antichita Romane Ossia Raccolta delle Piu Interessanti Vedute de Roma Antica.
