BIOGRAPHY OF ROBERT ADAM

BIOGRAPHY OF ROBERT ADAM

Robert Adam was a Scottish architect possessing great creative talents. Deeply inspired by Greek and Roman architecture, he published the study Ruins of the Palace of Diocletian in Dalmatia in 1764. His work is characterized by the great lightness and extreme elegance he gives to classical motifs. This graceful style gained great favor in its day. So much so that R. Adam was the architect to the King of England from 1762 to 1768. Other works include Works in Architecture of Robert and James Adam (3 vols., 1778-1779) which he wrote with his brother, fellow architect and assistant, James.
