| BIOGRAPHY OF S. SIDNEY |
 |

S. Sidney was the author of Cassell's Illustrated Book of the Horse, a 1890 publication featuring over 26 color plates of thorough-breds, half-breds, and cart-breds, as well as descriptions of these horses, horse care, and horsemanship in general. While Cassell's Illustrated Book of the Horse is very accurate and detailed in its prints, Sidney also engraved works that resemble caricatures, and these were highly popular for their humour and wit. Other prints are generally also in the equestrian genre, showing competitions, show-horses, and other appropriate equine activities.
