Thomas Jefferys was the leading British mapmaker of the mid-eighteenth century. He enraved and printed maps for the government and other official bodies and also produced numerous commercial maps and atlases, especially of North America. He was appointed geographer to the Prince of Wales in 1741 and geographer to King George III in 1760.
