Vero Shaw created chromolithographs for The Illustrated Book of the Dog in 1881 with over 93 color plates and black and white engravings. Known for his carefully detailed renderings of man's best friend, these illustrations were sometimes used as the breed's standards because of their accuracy and likeness. Closely associated with the kennel journalist Theo Marples, he and his associates wrote and illustrated specifically on the subject of the dog in England, introducing new breeds and providing accurate descriptions of current breeds.
