William Angus was a Scottish artist, engraver and publisher whose work dominated much of the late eighteenth century visual imagery. While many of his engravings are of his own drawings, he is best known for his ability to transfer to the copper plate the paintings and drawings of the most noteable artists of the period, regardless of subject matter. Aside from innumerable individual engravings he is best known for his engravings of Cooks Third Voyage and the Boydell Shakespeare Gallery
