BIOGRAPHY OF YASUO KUNIOSHI
Born in Okayama, Japan, Yasuo Kunioshi came to the United States at age 13 and studied art in Los Angeles and in New York under Kenneth Hayes Miller. He visited Europe in 1925 and again in 1928. Kuniyoshi's work has been described as Oriental in spirit but Western in technique. It has a brilliant accent despite his preference for somber colors. His paintings, drawings, and prints are original and highly decorative. He was long a favorite teacher at the Woodstock Summer Art School.
