Toyokini III was known as one of the three great Japanese woodblock artists of his time. He was the star pupil of the elder, Toyokuni II. In the 18′0s he was
known as Kunisada, which was his real name. In 1840, after Toyokuni the elder
died, he elected to take his masters name and became known as Toyokuni III.
The woodblock prints that he created during the 1800’s, were the last great images of the "Floating World".
