Filoli Gardens Botanical Art Exhibition
June 21, 2007 - July 29, 2007
Located 30 miles south of San Francisco in Woodside, CA, the Filoli Estate is recognized as one of the finest remaining country estates of the 20th century. The sixteen-acre formal garden is a premiere Bay Area tourist attraction, and one of America's greatest historic gardens.
A prime example of the California eclectic style, Filoli provides an inspiring vision of a new Eden, with bountiful land, plentiful resources, and an emphasis on self-sufficiency. Built more than sixty years after the California Gold Rush that inspired massive migration to Northern California, and ten years after the devastating 1906 earthquake and fire in San Francisco, Filoli represented a desire to create a magnificent and enduring country estate. Now operated by Filoli Center, the estate represents an excellent example of architecture and garden design from the first part of the twentieth century.
For the home gardener and the decorator enthusiast alike, the event Flowers in the Home explores plant-themed, daily activities and introduces visitors to creative projects such as making tasty herb infusions and creating natural plant dyes. This event also includes floral design demonstrations, cutting garden tours, and unique ways to incorporate flowers with food when entertaining and dinning.
During Flowers in the Home, Filoli will host its 8th Annual Botanical Art Exhibition which includes over sixty plant portraits by artists throughout the United States.
