Lyons Ltd. Hosted Private Book Signing on March 19 for Instant Expert: Collecting Prints
March 19, 2006
The one sunny day in March provided a beautiful backdrop to the garden talk given by Leila Lyons, author of the recently published "Collecting Prints." She discussed the Lyons family collection, and then hosted a viewing of the Lyons family collection, parts of which are illustrated in the new book, published by Random House in February.
In her more than 38 years of collecting, Mrs. Lyons has amassed prints of all types that span over 500 years of graphic art. The breadth of her knowledge and range of her interest is reflected in this personal collection, which includes works by masters from Rembrandt and Dürer to Matisse and Picasso. Of special note is a grouping of architectural etchings by G.B. Piranesi, the wedding gift to Mrs. Lyons and the late Charles R. Lyons that provided the impetus for the couple to begin their explorations into the history of graphic arts.
Mrs. Lyons and the staff of Lyons Ltd. were very pleased to host the unique event on March 19. The event was such a success that Lyons was compelled to host an additional seating! The afternoon began with an informal discussion, in which Mrs. Lyons talked about her experiences collecting prints and other antiques; guests were then encouraged to ask questions and even share their own stories. After the conversation, the Lyons family guided visitors through their collection in Mrs. Lyons' own home.
