Thomas Kitchin was one of the most prolific of English cartographers, producing maps, plans, and charts for numerous publications. He engraved and published maps of all of the countries of the world, and also of all of the English and Welsh counties. Each of his maps is distinguished by the small attractive cartouche. Kitchin collaborated on several projects with other renowned mapmakers, including Thomas Jefferys and Emmanual Bowen, and also was appointed hydrographer (one who charts bodies of water) to King George III.
