INTRODUCTION TO ROBERTS' TRAVELS IN EGYPT & HOLY LAND (1842-1849)
Scottish artist David Roberts, intrigued by account and Egypt from the Napoleonic Wars, traveled through Egypt in 1838. In 1839 he returned again and extended his travelsto Numibia & the Holy Land. Upon his return to London he supervised the lithography of his sketches which were published between 1842 & 1849. Llike Audubon, his work was greatly sought after and the images were subsequently reduced and reprinted in an octavo format in 1854.
