| INTRODUCTION TO MAPS OF WINE REGIONS |
 |

Wine has fascinated and sustained man since he tasted the first fermented wild grapes that wayward birds overlooked on the vine. The Greeks and Romans perfected and refined the process of winemaking and in their colonization of Europe and the Mediterranean, found fertile lands which in turn produced new varieties of wine. Then as now, wine grapes could be found in even the most unexpected locales.
Wine and winemaking cross many subject areas, so we chose to treat this as a genre unto itself. Wine: Grapes shows a selection of botanical prints of wine grape varieties. Wine: Maps of Winemaking Regions features the cartography of places across the globe known for producing wine. Wine: History & Process displays images relevant to grape cultivation and wine production as well as related occupations. Wine: Social & Political includes depictions of society's love, use, and misuse of wine. We hope you enjoy the many facets of this genre, Wine: Maps of Winemaking Regions.
